Welcome to the World, MKC

Welcome to the World, MKC

On March 29, 2016 at 12:15am, Andrew and I arrived at the hospital. We got settled in our room, and after 15 hours of labor, our sweet little man quietly arrived into the world. A head full of beautiful brown hair, and the most incredible little face I have ever seen.

He weighed in at 8 lbs .3 ounces, and measured 19.75 inches long

Labor was exhausting, and it was nice to finally see the little man who kicked my insides for 9 months.

Andrew and I are learning a whole new phase of life now: parenthood.

He looks like a little Andrew. We love him so very much!!

The Nursery

The Nursery

Andrew and I decided on the color Teal as the base for our nursery scheme. Then I found this adorable Eric Carle fabric, and knew I wanted that to be tied in. I found an old cabinet on Craigslist, and repainted it to suit our needs. I should have taken one with the doors on it. It smelled so bad. I had to let it sit in a baking soda/vinegar scrub for about a week. Considering I decided to redo it while I was going through the first twelve weeks of pregnancy didn't help.

However, I pushed through it, and the end result made me happy!! I also redid a buffet with the same colors: teal background, white coating, and raised it up so it can function as a changing table. I found these lamps at Hobby Lobby and knew they would be perfect in his nursery. Here is the scheme I plan to use:

We got the glider in, put it together, and repainted the bookshelf as well. Andrew and I gave each other this rug as our Christmas present. I LOVE IT! Notice Mr. Bojangles's tail in the corner.... Keeping him out of here is going to be a struggle. Andrew and I went to Ikea while on our "Babymoon", and we bought some spice racks to put up as bookshelves. It is all starting to come together! Notice the light  green storage bins on the low shelf... I redid these to coordinate with the theme!

I finally bought the lamps to match the teal theme, and I absolutely loving the 'nightlight' look that this bookshelf creates when you turn the lamp on. I decided to begin a quilt from the leftover pennants from our wedding to match the nursery as well...still a work in progress.

A little backstory on special pieces throughout Matthew's nursery:

The two over the changing table were in Andrew's nursery as a baby, as well as his brother, Matthew's. They were created by Andrew's Aunt and some of his Mom's friends. I re-framed them to match with an olive green matte found throughout his nursery. The embroidery on the wall over the crib was done by my mom, and it holds a special place in my heart. The embroidery over the sewing desk was done by my grandmother, Alee, and it hung in my oldest sister's nursery (not pictured). The mobile was in my nephew's nursery not too long ago, and I was so excited to hang it up in Matthew's nursery too. This crib was also Andrew's as a baby. My father-in-law and dad got together and built the crib for Matthew, and it was so special to see them work together to do that. With sewing being such a big part of my life, it means so much to have these pieces brought together for my baby boy. One day, I will be able to tell him all about each piece. Not Pictured: I have two more pieces of embroidery that have been collected since taking these pictures: One of an Irish Blessing from my Grandma, Irene, and a Cardinal Tree from my grandmother, Alee.

Mr. Bojangles found a new hiding spot...

My sister found this "Hungry Caterpiller" wooden toy that goes perfectly on the bookshelf. That ladybug lamp used to sit in my room growing up too. Notice the "Eric Carle" storage bins! I recovered the green ones with a casing made from the Brown Bear fabric.

The desk in the corner hides a sewing machine. The window in his nursery has such wonderful light, and brings a calming presence to his room. I can't wait to rock him in this nursery. Bedskirt is done, nursery is done! Can't wait to rock my baby in this room.

Loving the new life...
