42 Days to Go - Wedding Shoes Creation

Creating the Wedding Shoes

This blogpost was so inspiring, I took the idea upon myself, and challenged myself to complete it:

I went to Payless, and bought these flats for about $20. I love their flats because they fit me well, they are super comfortable, and if they get messed up, they aren't expensive to replace.

I also bought Mod Podge, though I went back and bought the Outdoor Mod Podge because someone in the post recommended it.

I thought blue because it is totally appropriate ;-) Something Blue

First, I took my handy X Acto knife and had to cut off the twisted fabric on the top.
This was so easy, thank goodness.

I slowly sliced through the fabric, making sure not to apply too much pressure because I didn't want to cut through the shoe. I tried to cut close to the sole to make it look like it wasn't ever there too.

I pulled one side straight making the cutting go faster as well.

Before the glue, and after the twist.

I cut two rectangles of fabric, making sure the pattern fell where I wanted, then sliced down the middle until just before the top of the shoes (there was maybe a 1/2 inch between the middle cut and the edge of the shoe.

Then I used a sponge brush to start adding globs of the glue.

I did the tip first, slowly smoothing out the fabric. Then, I added glue to the sides.
The edges needed a little extra love, and pressure.
When I got to the heels, I cut one edge until it was 1/2 inch past the middle of the heel. I glued it down. Then, I folded the other edge and glued it to where the fold kept.
I also added glue on top of that to keep the fold down.

I pushed the top in so the seam showed through, making it look more like the shoes were sewn.

I cut little ridges, and apparently forgot to take pictures, but I slowly added globs of glue to the inside of the fabric and held it on there to make sure it stuck. This part was tricky because my hands were sticky from the glue, and the fabric seemed to like my hands more than the shoe...

I added globs to the outside of the fabric to give it a nice stiff outer layer.

After a day, they dried. The left shoe in this picture is still way more wet than the right, so it looks lighter, but they turned out the go back to their color, and though "crunchy", it worked! I'm probably going to add inserts to make sure they are comfortable enough.

They not only match the bridesmaid dresses, but I have yet another Something Blue for the wedding!!!
